Sometimes it takes numbers to paint a picture:

In the country:
- According to the estimates of the National Law Center on Homelessness and Poverty,
on any given night in America, anywhere from 700,000 to 2 million people are homeless.

- As of last year, over 150,000 people were considered chronically homeless.

- And the face of homelessness? Single men compromise 44%, single women about 13%,
families with children: 36% and unaccompanied minors consisted of 7%.


As compared to Wyoming:

- As of 2004, 49,000 people were considered “below the poverty line.”

- 50% of Wyoming’s homeless population consists of men.

- Native Americans make up about 3% of the general population, but 19% of the homeless population.


As compared to COMEA:

- 30-40% of clients list their last place of residence as being in Laramie County.

- One fourth of the clients served are United States Veterans.

- 50% of COMEA’s homeless clients consist of men, 26% women, and 24% children.

- In 2006, COMEA served nearly 28,000 meals.

- In 2006, COMEA welcomed nearly 1,600 clients.

- In 2006, individual clients spent a total of 13,300 nights at COMEA.
